چکیده

Aim We studied the distribution of freshwater macroinvertebrate taxa and traits to distinguish ecological gradients among mining-controlled natural headwaters, rural urban economic activity influences. Location In 2016’s dry season, samples were collected at 40 locations in Mashcon watershed, northern Peruvian Andes. Six headwaters directly influenced by mining, eight near-pristine tributary 14 agricultural midstream 12 downstream. Methods Eight (five biological three ecological) selected according data availability, modalities scores assigned using weighted dominant-trait approaches. The relative abundances abiotic conditions compared watershed sections. interpretability ungrouped was verified with a distance-based redundancy analysis. Results high-altitude mining section had fewer types abundance, distinct body forms distributions prevalent sizes communities, relatable control headwaters. Physiological (respiration, mobility attachment, food sources, feeding habits, saprobity pH preferenda) differed quantification approaches less informative high altitudes. from tributaries recovered vegetated section, again be affected downstream section. Main Conclusions Our results suggest presence impairment despite excellent physicochemical quality water discharged mine. obtainment autecological information higher taxonomic resolution, e.g. for ubiquitous like Acari Chironomidae, would needed advance assessment ecologically hydrogeochemically complex Andean ecosystems.

Mining Migrants: Transnational Mining and Migration Patterns in the Peruvian Andes*

This article evaluates the linkages between transnational mining corporations and local migration dynamics in Peru. Changes in migration patterns in the Cajamarca region of Peru over the past decade are examined via a case study of the gold mining operations of Newmont Mining Corporation. The study considers household migration behavior in communities surrounding the mine as well as transformat...

Ethnomedical field study in northern Peruvian Andes with particular reference to divination practices.

The results of a field study carried out in August and September 1988, in the northern Peruvian Andes are described. The area of investigation extends from Ayabaca City (about 2900m above sea level) to Haughtiness Lagunas (about 3800m above sea level) in the Ayabaca District, Department of Piura. This is the first time that this location has been the subject of an ethnobotanical investigation. ...

Preceramic irrigation canals in the Peruvian Andes.

One of the most important developments in the existence of human society was the successful shift from a subsistence economy based on foraging to one primarily based on food production derived from cultivated plants and domesticated animals. The shift to plant food production occurred in only a few independent centers around the world and involved a commitment to increased sedentism and social ...

Holocene glacier fluctuations in the Peruvian Andes indicate northern climate linkages.

The role of the tropics in triggering, transmitting, and amplifying interhemispheric climate signals remains a key debate in paleoclimatology. Tropical glacier fluctuations provide important insight on regional paleoclimatic trends and forcings, but robust chronologies are scarce. Here, we report precise moraine ages from the Cordillera Vilcabamba (13 degrees 20'S) of southern Peru that indicat...
